KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING! MAKE SURE YOUR PARKING LOT HAS SEALCOATING BEFORE PRESSURE WASHING IT
It is right before the holidays and you want your business to look in tip top shape to accept all the customers that are coming through. A quick fix to cleaning up your parking lot and taking away all the dirt and grime that have built up is pressure washing it. It sounds like a good idea and will quickly clean the oil and guck from your parking lot.
However, when was the last time you had your parking lot sealcoated? If you haven’t had your parking lot sealcoated in the last 3-5 years then pressure washing your parking lot could cause more damage then good. Water is one of pavements biggest enemies. Water gets into your pavement and creates cracks and potholes and overtime will deteriorate your parking lot.
Sealcoating puts a protective layer on your pavement to help protect it from harmful elements including water. If your don’t have sealant on your pavement or if it has been too long since your last sealcoating then the water will seep into the pavement and can cause long term damage that is going to cause you to need to repair or repave your pavement a lot sooner than your normally would need to.
Pressure washing may seem like the best solution to cleaning your parking lot, but make sure your parking lot is protected before hand.
Your parking lot is the first thing your customers see when they encounter your business. Are you proud of your parking lot? Does your parking lot reflect your business well? These are things to consider when you are thinking of re-stripping your parking lot.
Re-stripping the parking lot is not something that is often on the top of your list to do. Often times the deterioration of a parking lot happens gradually and since you are at the business everyday, you tend to not notice the difference.
Try this out: bring a fresh pair of eyes to your business. Someone who doesn’t come to it everyday. Get a friend or a family member to come to your business an ask them what their thoughts are. (This is a good idea not just for the parking lot, but for the whole store). Have them take note of things that are not pleasing to the eye. That way you’ll get some good feedback on things that may need an update that you may have missed because you are busy running the place.
Not only is it important for your stripping to be fresh so that it looks good, but it also is important for the safety of your lot. Having faded parking lot stripes can be dangerous for your patrons. If patrons find it difficult to navigate your lot then the likelihood of accidents will increase. If people have hard time seeing arrows or parking spots then they may go in the wrong direction causing havoc in your parking lot - and this could be especially detrimental during the holiday season when you have a lot of customers in your lot.
But not only could it cause an accident, but it will cause your patrons to be frustrated and angry as they find a parking spot. You don’t want your parking lot to cause people going into your store in a state of frustration or anger. That does not bode well for their time at your store. Irritable showers are less likely to purchase things and are a bigger hassle to deal with.
