Asphalt Paving: The Process

An asphalt paving company can quickly get you on your way to having beautiful pavement for your apartment complex, parking lot or home. Here at Atlanta Paving Solutions we begin the process with a consultation. We’ll come by to see the property that needs paving and speak with you about your needs. We’ll take a look at surrounding areas to take note of any possible issues to make sure we avoid any unnecessary trouble.

Depending on the size of the job we can get it all done in one day. We will arrive on site and make sure that the area to be paved is clear. We will get the underlying surface ready for paving. It is important to have a solid foundation that is compacted and ready for the asphalt pavement. The asphalt is then layered on using a paving machine.

Asphalt Pavement Maintenance

In order to keep your pavement in tip top shape routine maintenance is required. As part of asphalt maintenance, 6-9 months after paving it is recommended apply 2 coats of asphalt sealer (seal coat) to protect the pavement from the elements. It is important that you wait 6-9 months before you get the seal coating done because during that time the pavement is still curing. Sealing it prior to the pavement being fully cured will cause structural problems to the pavement. It is recommended to have your asphalt pavement sealed every 3-5 years depending on the amount of daily vehicle traffic in order to keep the pavement in good condition.

Asphalt Paving Enemies

Water, oil and UV sunrays are enemies to asphalt pavement. Water and oxygen cause oxygenation to occur and breaks down the gluing agent of the asphalt. Initially the oxygenation is needed in order to create a firmness in the asphalt, but if it continues then it breaks down the gluing agent, making it more prone to cracks and damages. UV sunlight that bears on the pavement also can create structural issues as it causes it to crumble. And oil seepsinto the asphalt causing it to become softer. Sealcoating helps to protect the pavement from these elements so that the asphalt will have a longer lifetime value.
